Balance is Key When it Comes to DIY Salt Nic Juice

If you’re a vaper who has recently made the switch from freebase to salt-based nicotine e-liquid, you may be wondering about how the VG/PG ratio determines the vaping experience now that you’re trying out a new liquid formula. Most sub-ohm vapers devote a decent amount of time testing out different ratios in order to hit their sweet spot.

As you have probably figured out by now, when it comes to nic salt e-juices, there aren’t as many ratio options available on the market. The large majority of juices that contain salt nic have a 50/50 ratio of vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG). So, why may this be?

Before we answer that question, let’s discuss…

VG/PG Ratio: What it Means

The ratio refers to the balance between VG and PG- two ingredients that make up the e-liquid’s base. Both exist in order to ensure that an e-juice is the perfect consistency in order to be vaped. If e-juice is made to thin the juice would either burn, pop, or crackle when vaped. It e-juice is made too thick it will not vaporize efficiently causing your coil to burn up rapidly due to the length of time it needs to be heated.

  • Vegetable Glycerin: A thick and sticky plant-based ingredient that helps make e-liquid thick enough to produce dense clouds of vapor, and it prevents vape juice from evaporating too much at once. The higher the VG amount in an e-liquid’s base, the thicker those clouds will be.
  • Propylene Glycol: A thin and runny ingredient that balances out the vegetable glycerin by thinning out the formula so that it doesn’t clog the coil or fail to vaporize. The higher the PG level, the thinner the clouds will be, but the stronger the flavor will be, as well as the throat hit.

50/50: The Standard VG/PG Ratio for Salt Nic E-Juices

Now, traditional e-juices come in a wide range of ratios, because, as we said, different ratios affect one’s vaping experience in different ways. For instance, higher VG bases allow for thicker clouds. So, why is it that juices made with salt-based nicotine tend to only come in 50/50 VG/PG ratios? Well, there are actually several reasons why this is the case.

For one thing, pod systems and sub-ohm systems are completely different. Sub-ohm systems let users choose from a wide range of output settings in order to have different kinds of vaping experiences. So, allowing a user to choose from a wide range of ratios allows them to find an e-liquid consistency that accommodates their device’s unique settings.

Pod systems are low-wattage devices that don’t really let a user explore a wide range of output settings. Therefore, the user doesn’t need to test out several different ratios, because they can only customize their vaping experience so much.

Additionally, a 50/50 VG/PG ratio seems to be the best for carrying the salt-based nicotine. In other words, this consistency seems to allow for the ideal level of nicotine potency whenever the user takes a hit. Therefore, salt nic lovers tend to feel perfectly satisfied with this standard e-juice ratio, as it turns out.

Don’t Take This with a Grain of “Salt”

The fact that most salt-based nicotine e-liquids tend to only be available in 50/50 VG/PG ratios may take some getting used to for the experienced vaper. But you’ll quickly find out that with this new vaping style, the ratio doesn’t matter like it once did when you were a sub-ohm vaper. Now sit back and know that your salt nic e-juice, especially if you purchased it from Liquid Nicotine Wholesalers, has been carefully formulated to provide you with the top satisfaction possible.
